Tether International Reports Record Q1 2025 Results, Showcasing Strong Reserves and Growing Adoption

Tether International S.A. de C.V. (TI) has released its attestation report for Q1 2025, verified by BDO, one of the world’s top five independent accounting firms. The report validates the company’s Financial Figures and Reserves Report (FFRR), offering transparent insight into the assets backing Tether’s fiat-linked stablecoins. As of March 31, 2025, Tether’s exposure to U.S. Treasuries soared to an all-time high of nearly $120 billion, which includes both direct holdings and indirect investments via money market funds and reverse repos.

This milestone highlights Tether’s ongoing focus on liquidity, security, and financial resilience. The company posted over $1 billion in operating profits during the quarter, primarily driven by returns from its U.S. Treasury investments. Gold holdings also played a stabilizing role, helping to balance crypto market fluctuations.

Strong Surplus Reserves and USD₮ Expansion

Tether closed the first quarter with a robust $5.6 billion in surplus reserves funds held in addition to those backing its issued stablecoins, reinforcing the company’s liquidity and risk management strategies. Total assets reached approximately $149.27 billion, with total liabilities at $143.68 billion. Of that amount, $143.67 billion corresponds to digital tokens in circulation.

The supply of Tether’s USD₮ stablecoin grew by $7 billion during the quarter, reflecting increased demand. The number of user wallets surged by 46 million, a 13% quarter-over-quarter increase signaling wider adoption of USD₮ as a trusted tool for accessing the digital economy worldwide.

Long-Term Investments and Regulatory Milestones

In addition to its stablecoin reserve holdings, Tether has allocated more than $2 billion through its dedicated venture arm, Tether Investments. This initiative is focused on advancing cutting-edge sectors such as renewable energy, artificial intelligence, peer-to-peer platforms, and international digital infrastructure. Crucially, these investments are entirely distinct from the reserve assets that support the value of USD₮.

Q1 2025 also marked Tether’s first full quarter under El Salvador’s regulatory framework for digital assets. Now officially licensed as a stablecoin issuer in the country, Tether continues its commitment to operating transparently and in compliance with evolving global regulations.

Tether’s performance in Q1 2025 reaffirms its strong financial foundation and expanding role in the digital finance ecosystem. With record U.S. Treasury exposure, growing surplus reserves, and a rising user base, Tether is strategically positioned to bridge traditional finance with the world of crypto, while ensuring its stablecoins remain fully backed and transparently managed.
