Revolutionizing Crypto Transactions: Tangem Partners with Visa

Leading self-custodial crypto wallet provider Tangem is redefining how users spend digital assets by launching a new Visa-integrated hardware wallet. This next-gen payment solution merges traditional financial convenience with the autonomy of crypto ownership.

Announced on July 4, the strategic partnership with Visa introduces a first-of-its-kind product: a Tangem hardware wallet with embedded Visa payment technology. According to Tangem’s Chief Technology Officer, Andrey Lazutkin, the consumer-focused wallet is slated for release by the end of the year.

[ Tangem Pay: Certified Crypto Payment Technology

At the heart of this innovation is Tangem Pay a payment feature that enables users to make purchases directly from their self-custodial wallet, whether in-store or online. Visa certified this technology back in February 2022, paving the way for secure and user-friendly crypto payments.

“We received Visa’s certification and secured a patent. Now, we’re proud to introduce a product that’s ready for the global market,” Lazutkin shared.

Tangem co-founder Andrey Kurennykh emphasized the dual nature of the wallet:

“Users get the ease of a traditional bank card combined with full control of a self-custodial crypto wallet all in one simple card.”

He added that this breakthrough brings us closer to bridging the gap between conventional finance and decentralized digital assets.

A Smart Contract-Powered Card Without a Seed Phrase

The Tangem Pay card operates on a smart contract and is seedless by design, offering a simplified experience for users new to crypto. However, for those who prefer seed phrase functionality, Tangem’s wallets support both options.

Importantly, Tangem Pay isn’t limited to just Tangem wallets. Lazutkin revealed that the company aims to make the tech accessible across the Web3 ecosystem. This includes popular wallets like MetaMask, Ledger, and Trust Wallet.

“Even if you lose the Tangem Pay card, you can still manage your assets through your main wallet interface,” Lazutkin explained.

Future-Proofing Crypto Payments Across Wallets and Banks

The company’s long-term vision goes beyond consumer use. Tangem is building a software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform that enables any wallet provider to issue branded crypto payment cards using its technology. This opens doors for banks and blockchain projects to integrate real-world crypto spending into their offerings.

The launch will initially support Tether (USDT) on the Polygon network, with plans to expand to other cryptocurrencies and chains. Currently, Tangem supports over 59 blockchain networks, including Bitcoin and Ethereum.

Visa and Tangem: Shaping the Future of Digital Payments

Visa’s Head of Crypto, Cuy Sheffield, underlined the importance of this partnership:

“Working with Tangem aligns with our mission to create the next generation of secure, effortless digital currency payments.”

Tangem Wallet: Cold Storage Meets Convenience

Since its debut in 2021, Tangem Wallet has grown into a trusted cold storage solution that combines smart technology with simplicity. Shaped like a standard card, it lets users store and access cryptocurrencies securely, with or without seed phrases.

80% of users choose the seedless option, thanks to Tangem’s advanced smart backup system.

Each Tangem Wallet kit can include up to three identical cards, providing users with multiple access points to the same wallet, much like having spare keys.

To date, Tangem has shipped over one million wallets, now used in 160+ countries worldwide, with ongoing plans for expansion.

What Is a Self-Custodial Wallet?

A self-custodial wallet gives users full control over their crypto assets without relying on third-party intermediaries. Whether it’s Bitcoin or stablecoins, ownership remains entirely in the hands of the user, making Tangem’s new Visa-integrated wallet a powerful solution for those seeking both freedom and functionality in crypto payments.
